In collaboration with Associate Professor B Smithers (PAH Melanoma Unit) and Professor Adele Green (QIMR Berghofer)

Aim of the study:  To fully characterise the elements and timing of morphological changes associated with the metamorphosis from naevus to melanoma, and identify characteristics associated with the normal life cycle of a naevus.

Description: Full body photography with individual dermoscopic naevus images will be recorded and the morphology classified and described. The patients will be followed up twice a year for 3 years with re-imaging of all naevi and any dermoscopic changes arising documented at each appointment.

Status: Recruitment for this longitudinal study has completed with 62 individuals participating.  Analysis of the data is still in progress.  There are plans to conduct a similar naevi survelliance study in advanced melanoma patients.
