UQ Dermatology Research Centre strengthens its cross-disciplinary research capacity in immunology

Tuesday, September 12, 2017 - 09:15
Dr James Wells

The University of Queensland Dermatology Research Centre (DRC) announced the integration of the Skin Immunology Group, broadening the scope and expertise at the centre.

Professor H. Peter Soyer announced that Dr James Wells, who leads the Skin Immunology Group at UQ Diamantina Institute (UQDI), would join the DRC in September 2017.

“We are looking forward to an even closer collaboration with James integrating skin immunology research into DRC.” Professor Soyer said.

Dr Wells is a Senior Research Fellow at UQDI, where he heads a multifaceted program investigating the adaptive immune system, which plays a key role in the immediate response to infection and malignancy.

The Wells lab has a particular interest in immune regulation in the skin and conducts basic research using in vivo and in vitro model systems.

“I am extremely pleased to join the DRC as the Director of Immunology.” Dr Wells said.

“This appointment will allow me to implement and lead new immunological initiatives as well as strengthen my pre-existing collaborative links within the DRC.”

The Wells lab collaborates with immunologists, cell biologists, imaging specialists, clinical research teams and industry partners.

Dr Wells was awarded a prestigious 5-year Perpetual Trustees Fellowship and was appointed as a Group Leader at the University of Queensland Diamantina Institute in 2011.
